Sketch of the Day: Golem, As Seen in the Video
You’ve probably already seen the video, but this was a quick sketch I did for a YouTube commentary. Not an insane lot to say about it, that aside.

Well after being forced to settle on a speed drawing, I decided I wanted to do a video and keep the full commentary, regardless of how bad it may turn out, because I’ll never learn otherwise. So, here you guys go!

Alright, I’m going to post this anywhere. I know it’s kinda stupid, but it’s my first YouTube video AND I’M JUST SO PROUD OF IT. Hope you guys enjoy!

Hey, guys! Sorry I’ve been out for a bit, but I’ve got big news! Remember that scrapped RuneSpark comic I showed you a while back? Well, I unscrapped it. RuneSpark is now live, with a full 5-a-week schedule, which I think is the biggest scale I’ve ever done a webcomic on. Best part is, even with the updates as frequent as they are, there’s going to be enough free time in the week for me to keep on doing my blog, too! I know that just makes you squeal with joy. Anyway, on to the sketch of the day, which is quite related:

And on the flipside (Literally, this was on the other side of the guy with sword paper – consider me environmentally conscious.) we have a more cutesy, cartoony character… who happens to survive off of crispy squirrel bits in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. I went for the cyllindrical-limb look for this one, not quite sure I got it down pat, though.

Today’s sketch of the day (#1… I may add another one in a few minutes here) is brought to you courtesy of Buddy Scalera, who has been putting out, as far as I know, the only comic book photo references, and performed by Loukas Papas. I changed the light source, and replaced Lou’s head with a more Asian look, because, you know, racism. (Actually, it’s because I just watched Warrior’s Way, and wanted something along the lines of something out of that movie, but just got really lazy with the “costume” and hair.)

And for our final entry, we have basically a second draft of Runespark, which would have been basically a more playful take on the story I already started. I think at this point I was just burnt out, and the art and story just didn’t turn out quite the way I wanted it to.

Here we come full-circle into a version of my Punk-Pink! remake, RuneSpark. At this point I was kinda trying to avoid hitting the readers with blatant fanservice, going for a more cutesy, old cartoon-style of storytelling. It begins with Li (Tenkyo, from Punk-Pink!) singing a nursery rhyme “Kings of Old”, which more or less tells a bit of her homeland’s history. She’s picked up by Phillip Marco, also a character from Punk-Pink!, who had just purchased a magic-powered car. They discuss the sudden prominence of magic-powered technology, and Marco is curious about the basket Li carried on her back, to which she responds that it’s for a magic show. As you can see, with four comics inked and two in the burner, I got a lot farther with this one before I started to realize that the story was going nowhere. I don’t think it’s unsalvageable, though, and I may actually put this one aside for later…

This next one is aboutn alien named Trill, who I accidentally themed like a snail. I almost gave the comic the working title “snalien”, but figured people would have a hard time figuring out if it was supposed to be spelled “snalien” or “snailien”. In retrospect this might still be an idea worth pursuing, but the biggest issue right now is figuring out what kind of character Trill really is. Right now, she seems kindalike a two-dimensional space cop.
The second comic is kind of a “page three” of a mini-story that accidentally evolved from the first one. In the first strip, Trill is asking about the current weather condition of her favorite vacation spot, “Planet Fun”, to which the computer dryly responds that unsafe levels of fun are detected, and there are no survivors.

This first scrapped comic is RMPunk. As you can tell by the first strip there, it’s about life, love, and rock and roll. Oddly enough, I hated it when I was working on it, and saw potential when I wasn’t.
